Concussion Policy
North Toronto Basketball Association, a member club of the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA), firmly believes that concussions are serious and fully supports the OBA Concussion Policy and Code of Conduct.
Rowan’s Law Phase 1 came into effect on July 1, 2019 and introduced a requirement for sports organizations in Ontario to ensure review of Concussion Awareness Resources and Concussion Codes of Conduct by all participants. Each year all players (parents/guardians of players if player is under 18 years of age) are required to review (and acknowledge they have reviewed) related policies and resources in order to register and participate in our program.
On January 1, 2022, Phase 2 of Rowan’s Law came into effect, requiring all sport organizations in the province to establish removal-from-sport and return-to-sport protocols for concussion management. The resources below, which are also linked from the Concussion Safety section of the OBA website, are applicable for NTBA house league and rep programs:
- Suspected Concussion Report Form
- Medical Assessment Letter (template)
- Medical Clearance Letter (template)
- OBA Concussion Reporting Portal – Smartsheet
- Removal from Basketball Protocol
- Return to Basketball Protocol
All NTBA players, coaches and volunteers are expected to support and adhere to the Concussion Policy.
